UOW students compete in Coolangatta Gold

Two UOW students competed in the recent gruelling NIB Coolangatta Gold Ironman race from Surfers Paradise to Coolangatta and return.
Ben Allen finished seventh in a time of 4:19:49 with the winner clocking 4:10:58.
Ben had a really good start to the race and was fourth going into the last 10km soft sand run before, as he puts it, “my legs just went on me”.
He says he was happy to improve on his 10th result last year.
Female UOW competitor, Ashley Russell, came in 23rd spot.
The Gold, open for the first time to all-comers, included a 23km ski paddle, 3km swim, 5.5km board paddle and a “killer” 10km soft sand run to the finish.
