Educational groups collaborate on new learning modules
18 Oct 2007 | Bernie Goldie
The Australian College of Educators and the Australian Centre for Educational Leadership, Faculty of Education, at UOW have collaborated to produce six professional learning modules.
The new modules were formally presented by acknowledged experts in their field at an orientation conference held at the University over the weekend of October 13-14. The project was co-launched by Mr Chris Carroll, School Education Director (North Wollongong), representing the Centre Advisory Committee and Ms Cheryl O’Connor, CEO of the College.
The Director of the Australian Centre for Educational Leadership, Associate Professor Narottam Bhindi said the collaboration has provided high quality, rigorous and relevant professional learning that takes the best of professional guidance and online learning support.
"In preparing the program, the partners have ensured that preferences expressed by teachers and principals about how they prefer to learn have been fully considered," Professor Bhindi said.
The first two modules presented on October 13 and 14 were "Learning for Quality Teaching and Learning" and "Working with People".
The remaining four modules will be presented sequentially. They are "Improving Classroom Management", "Improving Teaching and Learning in the Classroom", "Using Technology for Quality Teaching and Learning" and "Career Planning and Management".
Satisfactory completion of any three of the six modules will count for advanced standing/credit for one six-credit point subject in the Master of Education, Educational Leadership Program at UOW. Satisfactory completion of the six modules represents 25 per cent of the requirements for the Masters Program.
Presenters at the orientation conference were Professor Bhindi; Professor Stephen Dinham who is Research Director, Teaching and Leadership, with the Australian Council of Educational Research in Melbourne; Christine Arthur and Michelle Brooks of the NSW Department of Education and Training (Illawarra and South East Region).
