UOW launches Safe Work Australia Week
22 Oct 2007 | Renee Criddle
The University of Wollongong will be offering free massages, health checks and cooking demonstrations on campus this week as part of national Safe Work Australia week.
The event was developed to focus attention on workplace safety issues around Australia.
It aims to encourage all working Australians, particularly employers, to get involved and concentrate on safety in their workplace to reduce death, injury and disease.
The event was launched at a breakfast at UOW this morning attended by Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Operations), Professor John Patterson and Director of Personnel Services and Mr John Steele. A presentation was delivered by guest speaker John Collins from RiskChase.
RiskChase is a multi-disciplinary organisation providing risk management advice to a variety of major organisations.
On Wednesday (22 October), UOW’s Occupational Health and Safety Unit in collaboration with the University Recreation and Aquatic Centre (URAC) will hold a Health Expo for staff, allowing them to receive information on a range of professional health services.
Services will include free massages, nutrition advice, health checks, posture analysis, healthy cooking demonstrations, a yoga workshop and stress management advice. The Expo will be held in the URAC Sports Lounge from 10am – 2pm.
