Students get tips on exploring the great outdoors
24 Oct 2007 | Renee Criddle
The University of Wollongong’s Kooloobong Student Accommodation recently organised a student development program aimed at enhancing the Australian experience and skills for its residents.
The initiative was based on response from student residents who were seeking more information about the best options for exploring Australia during the summer season.
The information session featured the popular seasonal venues, self-preparation/care-taking skills, cost estimations, a variety of offers with discounts, recommended accommodation and the different challenges that come with travelling. The residents also learned how to suitably manage a safe and budget journey, and where to find help.
The session was presented by Alice Grant from STA Travel, Amanda Reynolds from Adventure Tours, Michael Rood from Adventure Sailing, and Peta Larkham from Palace Adventures.
Senior Resident and Principal Organiser, Genesis Galacio, said that the program was a great success, which significantly benefited not only the international and study-abroad attendees, but also the Australian students.
Response from the students indicated that they had learned a great deal from the program and were more excited than ever to explore the beauty and wonder of Australia.
The student development initiative was supported by Residence Manager of Graduate House Kieraview and Kooloobong, Mary Sparks; Senior College Adviser, Ben Withers and Kooloobong’s Senior Residents’ Team and Community Involvement Association (CIA).
