UOW top finalist for Learning Impact Award

The University of Wollongong has triumphed against 10 other Australian institutions to be ranked top finalist for a Learning Impact Award.

The award recognises the Graduate School of Medicine’s (GSM) Online Learning Environment (OLE) which was designed by Associate Professor Lori Lockyer in the Faculty of Education and Educational Technology Manager in the GSM, Martin Olmos.

The online learning environment allows GSM students to access resources and learning activity outlines in the school’s integrated outcomes-based curriculum.

Professor Lockyer and Mr Olmos have been awarded a $5000 grant to attend the IMS Learning Impact conference next year in Texas, USA to represent UOW in the international awards.

The Learning Impact Awards are an initiative of the IMS Global Learning Consortium and recognise the use of technology to support and enhance learning featuring the highest levels of innovation, adoption and learning impact.

IMS Global Learning Consortium is a global, non-profit member organisation that strives to enable the growth and impact of learning technology in the education and corporate learning sectors worldwide.

The OLE has also been chosen as a finalist in the Australian Society for Computers in Learning in Tertiary Education (ASCILITE) Awards for Improving Teaching and Learning using information and community technology. Representatives from the GSM have been invited to the annual conference in Singapore in December this year where the winner will be announced.

These achievements show recognition by key external organisations of the school’s innovative use of educational technology and contribute towards its vision of becoming a national and international leader in medical education.
