International computer scientist visits UOW
12 Nov 2007 | Nick Hartgerink
Distinguished international computer scientist Professor Peter Chen visited the University of Wollongong on Friday (9 November) to meet with researchers and students.
Professor Chen, who M. J. Foster Distinguished Professor at Louisiana State University, is a pioneer in the fields of software engineering and database technology.
During his time at UOW he visited the Decision Systems Laboratory at the School of Computer Science and Software Engineering, where a key focus of research is conceptual modelling technologies stemming from Professor Chen's seminal work
Professor Chen is the originator of the Entity-Relationship Model (ER Model), which serves as the foundation of many systems analysis and design methodologies, computer-aided software engineering (CASE) tools, and repository systems, and is something that every undergraduate student in the areas of computer science and information systems is required to learn.
Professor Aditya Ghose, from the School of Computer Science and Software Engineering, described Professor Chen as one of the world’s leaders in his field and said his visit to Wollongong was a great opportunity for staff and students to exchange ideas with such an eminent academic.
