International House conducts farewell formal and awards evening

International House at the University of Wollongong recently conducted its house farewell formal and awards evening.
About 180 students and staff attended the farewell formal.
International House, one of 16 International Houses worldwide, is home to 218 residents from 25 nations.
Nikola Wamukoya received the Concordia Award which goes to the resident who best personifies intercultural harmony and international friendship.
Naomi Birchnoff received the Character and Service Award for the resident who works tirelessly for the benefit of the residential community.
Five teams of two people competed for the Charity Challenge Prize which involved raising funds for registered charities. The winning team was Matthew West and Naomi Birchnoff who raised over $1,200 for the Starlight Children’s Foundation and the Cancer Council. Other teams raised money for ovarian and lung cancer research and organisations such as Beyond Blue, The Children of Sumatra, The Rural Fire Service and the NSW Environment Protection Authority.
In 2008 International House at UOW is part of the Davis Projects for Peace program in which a team of students will be awarded US$10,000 to run a project that promotes world peace.
On November 16, International House will launch its new vision and mission relating to “Global Wellbeing”.
