Movember makes way for clean shaven December
3 Dec 2007 | Bernie Goldie
UOW’s male fraternity have done their bit for the national charity event of Movember.
At the start of Movember, males register with a clean shaven face. The Movember participants known as Mo Bros then have the remainder of the month to grow and groom their moustache and, along the way, raise as much money and awareness about male health issues as possible.
While growing a Mo is left to the males, Mo Sistas form an important part of Movember by recruiting Mo Bros and helping to raise funds.
Movember’s aim of changing the face of men’s health in Australia is conducted in partnership with the leading foundations that focus on prostate cancer and depression in men.
In Australia Movember’s beneficiary partners were the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia and the national depression initiative, beyondblue.
Among the UOW teams taking part in the charity event were four participants from the Printery (“print hairy” team) which raised $1,074. The Mo Sistas voted Sam Borg the winner of the “Best Mo in Office”.
Meanwhile, the UniAdvice team (the Aunty Jack All Stars) comprised Jonathan Barker, Graham Smith, Patrick O’Connor, Pete Murray and John Purvis. No outright winner was chosen from among this group.
The Aunty Jack All Stars raised $123.50.
