Golden Key celebrates 30th anniversary

This year marks the 30th Anniversary of the University of Wollongong’s Golden Key International Honour Society.
The Golden Key Society is a not for profit, international honour organisation which recognises and encourages academic achievement throughout all disciplines, at over 350 universities and colleges worldwide.
The chapters span seven countries including Australia, Canada, Malaysia, New Zealand, South Africa, the United Arab Emirates and the United States. Membership for is comprised of those students who have achieved the top 15 percent of their chosen degree at their university.
In October, UOW’s chapter inducted 228 high achieving students at its new member reception. At the event, Golden Key awarded a scholarship to Sally O’Donnell - a new member who is active in the community and has maintained an excellent academic record.
Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Operations), Professor John Patterson, was guest speaker at the event and was also inducted into the Golden Key Society as an Honorary Member.
At the Annual General Meeting held in November, a new enthusiastic board was elected to serve during 2008. Goals for 2008 include increasing campus awareness and membership, and also coordinating a mid-year event to promote networking amongst Golden Key members and business leaders in the Illawarra region.
Several members of the new board, including UOW’s 2008 chapter President, Lauren Ross, will be attending the Asia-Pacific Conference being held at the University of Canterbury in Christchurch, New Zealand, in early 2008.
The aim of the conference is to learn about effective chapter management, improving leadership skills and engaging members through a series of key note speaker presentations and workshops over three days.
