Loftus graduates warm up for main event

More than 40 graduating students from the University of Wollongong’s Loftus Education Centre took part in a graduation celebration ceremony with their families and friends at Kareela Golf Club on Monday (10 December).
Sutherland Shire Mayor Cr David Redmond and Member for Hughes Danna Vale attended the celebration ceremony, which precedes next week’s official Graduation Week ceremonies at the University’s main Wollongong campus, where they will have their degrees conferred.
Loftus Education Centre manager Larissa Patti said Monday’s ceremony was an opportunity for the close-knit student group to celebrate their achievements together, as those doing different degrees would be graduating on different days at the ceremonies in Wollongong.
“It’s really a local recognition of what the students have achieved,” Ms Patti said. “The graduating students could invite as many guests as they liked, so it was a real family affair.”
UOW Dean of Education Professor Paul Chandler and Deputy Dean of Commerce Professor Trevor Spedding officiated at the ceremony.
The students had completed Bachelors degrees in Business Administration, Mathematics Education and Science Education and Masters degrees in Management.
The Loftus Education Centre caters for around 250 students.
