UOW conducts workshop on Intellectual Property enforcement

12 Dec 2007 | Bernie Goldie

A special workshop is being held at the University of Wollongong on December 11 and 12 looking at intellectual property enforcement in the Asia Pacific Region.

The workshop has been being convened at UOW’s Centre for Comparative Law and Development Studies in Asia and the Pacific (CLDSAP) with support from the Max Planck Institute for Intellectual Property, Competition and Tax Law and the ARC Centre of Excellence for Creative Industries and Innovation.

The conveners are Professor Christoph Antons (Professor of Comparative Law and Director of CLDSAP) and Thailand’s Minister of Commercial Affairs, Weerawit Weeraworawit, who is a Visiting Professorial Fellow with CLDSAP.

The workshop is examining the changes to Intellectual Property legislation, enforcement practices and institutions in a number of East and Southeast Asian countries. It is contrasting recent Asian experiences with those in Australia, Europe and the US.

The preferences of Intellectual Property rights holders for civil, criminal and administrative means of enforcement in the various systems is being contrasted and the reasons for these preferences examined.

The workshop has attracted speakers from a range of institutions in Australia, Europe, United States and Asia.
