Eleven ceremonies are being held over the five days. The expected attendance of 10,000 comprises graduands along with their families and friends.

One of the graduation highlights was the awarding of the prestigious Chancellor Robert Hope Memorial Prize. Established in 2004, it is the University Council’s only prize and is named in honour of the University's first Chancellor. This year’s Memorial Prize and Medal went to Patrick Hodder who graduated today (18 December) with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Community, Culture and Environment. The late Foundation Chancellor’s wife, Mrs June Hope, was on hand to see the presentation ceremony.

The Bega Education Centre student completed his thesis on the politics of climate change. He also received the University Medal in the Faculty of Arts.

The Group Chief Executive Officer for the National Australia Bank, Mr John Stewart, delivered the Occasional Address at the same ceremony. Immediately following the ceremony, Mr Stewart presented a $40,000 cheque to the University.
