UOW hosts thousands of Year 12 students
4 Feb 2008 | Bernie Goldie
More than 5,500 students from 134 high schools will flock to the University of Wollongong this week (4 - 8 February 2008) for the annual Discovery Days - the University's largest undergraduate recruitment event.
The aim of Discovery Days is to provide an opportunity for Year 12 students to experience, first-hand, what university life is like for a day.
The day gives them an insight into student life including services and facilities on campus, subject selection as well as the experience of attending classes in their areas of interest.
This year, the University is expecting students from high schools in the Illawarra, Southern Sydney, South Western Sydney, South Coast, Goulburn, Southern Highlands, ACT and many rural schools over the five-day period.
All faculties have been heavily involved in the planning of presentations for this event.
Over the week, students will register at the University Hall and will then be dispersed across the campus in various lecture theatres and seminar rooms.
Lunch for students is scheduled between midday and 1pm each day. Weather permitting, a band will be playing on the Duck Pond lawn to entertain the students.
