The University of Wollongong has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Yonsei University, one of Korea’s most highly-ranked universities.
UOW’s Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research), Professor Lee Astheimer signed the agreement with Professor Wooyoung Lee from the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, Yonsei University.
Associate Professor Guoxiu Wang from UOW’s School of Mechanical, Materials and Mechatronic Engineering and the Institute of Superconducting and Electronic Materials (ISEM) visited Yonsei University last year to discuss the possibility of a collaboration.
The collaboration is particularly focused in the area of materials science and engineering.
UOW and Yonsei plan to have joint research grant applications both in Australia and Korea, exchange PhD students and use advanced laboratory facilities.
The participating research centres and departments from Yonsei University include Brain Korea 21, the Division of Humantronics Information Materials, Innovation Cluster for Bio-Fusion Industry based on Nanotechnology, Yonsei Biomedical Science Technology Initiative and the Department of Materials Science and Engineering.
The centres and school from UOW include the Institute for Superconducting and Electronic Materials, Engineering Materials Research Institute (EMI) and the School of Mechanical, Materials and Mechatronic Engineering.
Ahead of the signing, Professor Lee presented a technical seminar entitled “On-Film Formation of Bi Nanowires with Extraordinary Electron Mobility” to staff and students at UOW. The seminar was hosted by UOW’s Institute of Superconducting and Electronic Materials (ISEM).
