International House residents ‘welcomed to country’
12 Mar 2008 | Bernie Goldie
International House residents from 33 nations have this week been treated to an Australian ‘welcome to country’.
Local elder, Dootch Kennedy, Chair of the Illawarra Land Council, addressed the residents and introduced the "Little Nargums" who performed the ‘Welcome’ by dance.
Head of International House, Dr Lindsay Oades, said residents new to Australia were thrilled with their first traditional welcome.
The indigenous welcome was complemented by a show of Australian flora and fauna - and a feast including traditional Australian fare.
Dr Oades said International House, the oldest student residence of UOW, has the mission of promoting global well-being by enabling its residents to be intercultural leaders.
