The Minister for the Illawarra David Campbell today (14 March) officially opened the $18.8 million Mt Ousley zone sub-station with the University of Wollongong to be one of the main beneficiaries.
The sub-station is designed to improve power reliability for more than 30,000 people in Wollongong.
Mr Campbell joined with Integral Energy Chairman Michael McLeod, Acting Chief Executive Officer Daniel Lucas and UOW Vice-Chancellor, Professor Gerard Sutton at the official ceremony.
The Minister told those at the official opening that two of the main beneficiaries of the new complex would be UOW and Wollongong TAFE which will enjoy a more secure power supply direct from the new sub-station.
He said it would complement the existing supply to the University’s main campus and provide power for the new Graduate School of Medicine as well as the developing Innovation Campus.
Mr Lucas said the existing substations at Corrimal, North Wollongong and West Wollongong were installed between 30 to 50 years ago.
