Graduate School of Business conducts special guest lectures

A specialist with in-depth knowledge and insights into developing business opportunities in China and India is a special guest lecturer at UOW this week.

Hosted by the Graduate School of Business, Professor Fang Lee Cooke yesterday (April 2) delivered two lectures at UOW and will present a further two lectures tomorrow (Friday April 4) at the Sydney Business School.

Professor Cooke is Professor of Human Resource Management and Chinese Studies and Director of the Centre for Chinese Business and Management Studies at Manchester Business School in England.

Her lectures are also focusing on the best means of attracting Chinese foreign direct investment to Australia and more generally in the area of international human resource management.

Her first lecture at UOW yesterday examined “Human resource management in China: An overview of history and recent developments” followed by an afternoon lecture on “Managing diversity in India and China: Implications for western multinational companies”.

Tomorrow’s Sydney Business School lectures are on the topics of “Human resource management in China: An overview of history and recent developments” while the afternoon lecture is on the topic, “Outward FDI from China: Implications for HRM”.

Professor Cooke’s research activities are in the areas of human resource management, industrial relations and employment law in the British and Asian Pacific context.

Her research interests include issues related to skills and training, career pattern, quality management, knowledge management, equal opportunity, technological and organisational change, outsourcing and implications for human resource management, organisational learning and competitiveness.

Professor Cooke also has a strong interest in researching outward Chinese investment and the employment of migrant Chinese in developed countries.

She is the author of two books, “Competition, Strategy and Management in China” and “HRM, Work and Employment in China”.
