It started with a visit by the Governor of NSW, Her Excellency Professor Marie Bashir, on Monday 31 March and ended on Friday 4 April with a visit to the campus of the Catholic World Youth Day Cross.
UOW hosted a range of activities to mark Diversity Week.
The Governor officially launched Diversity Week at the University of Wollongong see (http://media.uow.edu.au/news/UOW043014.html). At the opening a Welcome to Country was delivered by Indigenous Elder Mr Roy Kennedy.
And following the Governor’s launch, Member for Throsby Ms Jennie George opened a Faculty of Creative Arts exhibition entitled, ‘Dialogue in Diversity’ by Faculty of Creative Arts Masters student, Annette Tzavaras.
The main aim of Diversity Week was to celebrate differences at UOW – including abilities, disabilities, sexuality, ethnicity and race, gender and age.
Other activities in the week included an exhibition of art in the McKinnon Building from artists who are part of the Department of Ageing, Disability and Home Care; a ‘Law v Arts’ debate; an Indigenous art tour; a comedy night with a multicultural theme with comedians including Tahir, Hung Le, Nish and Clint Paddison; sign language classes in the Library; a display of human rights material by the Faculty of Education; a market day on the Duck Pond Lawn; a blind cricket match; a film festival; a social justice launch; and as part of Catholic World Youth Day the cross and icon visited the campus.
Here now is a pictorial snapshot of the week’s events:
