Largest National Careers Fair ever to be staged

The University of Wollongong National Careers Fair is so large this year that the University Hall will not even be able to hold all the employer organisations.
Last year the University Hall was full with 83 employer groups – on Wednesday 16 April, 104 organisations will spill out of the hall and upstairs to the Old Bistro and Kembla Rooms.
The Manager of UOW’s Careers Service, Mr Martin Smith, said the reason behind the booming numbers is a combination of a very buoyant graduate labour market and the increasing reputation of Wollongong graduates as being highly sought after by employers.
Mr Smith said this year many employers will also promote programs which provide second year students with exposure to their workplaces – in programs such as internships or vacation work.
“It is all part of the need for employers to raise their profile earlier with students in the sought after disciplines of engineering, commerce and IT,” Mr Smith said.
Mr Smith said the really good news is that “we are now seeing employers being open to a wider range of disciplines and also considering international students in their recruitment targets”.

This Wednesday’s National Careers Fair will run from 10am to 2pm.
And while the focus this week is on opportunities for graduates across Australia, on Wednesday 7 May the focus will be on graduate opportunities within the Illawarra and surrounding districts when the Illawarra Graduate Careers Fair is staged at UOW.
