New scholarships to help address severe shortage of materials engineers
18 Apr 2008 | Bernie Goldie
Bradken General Manager, Human Resources, Mr Wayne Herbertson, recently announced the recipients of the inaugural Bradken scholarships for students studying materials engineering at UOW.
Bradken is Australia’s largest foundry company and manufactures specialist metal castings for rail, mining, power and cement industries.
To address a severe shortage of materials engineers, Bradken has decided to sponsor up to five students studying materials engineering.
After searching Australia wide for available tertiary courses, Bradken decided that UOW’s materials engineering degree program was the most suitable.
The scholarship recipients are James Dirou and Rebecca O’Brien who are both in the first year of their materials engineering course.
The scholarships will allow students to study full-time at UOW while spending their summer vacations working in one of Bradken’s many foundry operations around Australia, in the UK or China.
