To celebrate Mother’s Day, students from Graduate House, Kooloobong and Keiraview served morning tea to a group of elderly residents at St Mary’s Retirement Village in Berkeley.
“We wanted to recognise what mothers have done and say thank you,” said Mary Sparks, Student Residence Manager of Graduate House, Kooloobong and Keiraview.
“Some of these women may not be able to visit their relatives on Mother’s Day so we wanted to make them feel special.”
“And some of our students at Graduate House are mothers themselves and know what it feels like to be away from their family on Mother’s Day.”
Last week, students from Graduate House, Kooloobong and Keiraview teamed up to make beautiful hand-made cards to give to the women.
On the day, Michelle Paine, Steve Sargeson and Jeannie Hsiu Ding Wong from Kooloobong; Chulantha Jayawardena, Elahe Aminifar and her daughters Rojin and Negin from Graduate House, along with Kelly Jones and Liz Mendygral and staff from Keiraview came along to meet the residents.
In an amazing coincidence, Philomena Farrington, who will be 101 in August, taught Student Residence Manager, Mary Sparks at school (see photo of Philomena Farrington with student Steve Sargeson).
Bakers Delight in Wollongong did its bit by providing scones on the day.
