‘Pink luncheon’ group celebrate fund-raising effort
19 May 2008 | Bernie Goldie
NSW’s largest Pink Breakfast was held at the University of Wollongong on 31 October last year when the goal of raising $15,000 towards breast cancer research was reached within two hours.
The sold-out event attracted almost 600 people to the University Hall and featured as one of the highlights an offer by Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Operations), Professor John Patterson, to auction off the position of ‘Vice-Chancellor for a day’.
A sum of $1,750 secured the position for Solveig Dewhurst in the Faculty of Informatics. Her colleague, Dr Katina Michael, generously chipped in the final $250 that resulted in the winning bid.
Ms Dewhurst will, this Friday (23 May), enjoy a full day as ‘head of the campus’ and will be able to take advantage of the full use of the Vice-Chancellor’s office, executive assistant and parking spot.
Ahead of Ms Dewhurst’s new role as Acting Vice-Chancellor later this week, she and her fellow ‘pink ladies group’ who supported Dr Holly Tootell’s breast cancer fund-raising efforts met for a celebratory ‘pink luncheon’ at Food Re-Thought on Friday 16 May.
