UOW makes every cup count at its “Big Morning Teas”
23 May 2008 | Bernie Goldie
Staff and students enjoyed tea, coffee and cakes galore this week as clubs, groups and faculties hosted “Big Morning Teas” across campus in support of the Cancer Council.
For the second year running, the UOW Rotaract Club and the UOW Law Students’ Society raised a combined total of about $1,000 for the Cancer Council from their morning teas held on campus. Funds were also raised through a donation box displayed at the University’s Food Re Thought.
UOW staff also created a stir for cancer research with Buildings and Grounds and UniAdvice raising over $200 in the space of a few hours.
Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea is one of the Cancer Council’s largest fundraising events, and the most successful event of its kind in Australia. More than $40 million has been raised since it began in 1994.
Staff are also supporting the Cancer Council through UOW Cares, the staff workplace giving program. Workplace giving enables staff to make regular contributions to various community organisations, including the Cancer Council, through their pay each fortnight. The Cancer Council alone has received more $1,000 from staff contributions through UOW Cares.
Further information on UOW Cares can be found at www.uow.edu.au/about/community/giving. For information on UOW Rotaract – www.uowrotaract.org or Law Students’ Society - http://www.uow.edu.au/law/lss/.
Donations to the Cancer Council’s Biggest Morning Tea can be made until 30 June 2008 at www.biggestmorningtea.com.au
