New electronic book creates first for UOW

A new electronic book entitled Learning and the Learner: Exploring learning for new times – the first book published at the University of Wollongong through research online – has been launched at the Library.
The ebook emerged from a series of workshops and presentations to explore new issues in learning.
The book explores diverse questions which include access and inequality, new technologies of learning, learning and spirituality, creating new learning environments, globalisation and its impact on learning, learning and Lev Vygotsky and lifelong learning.
The book includes contributions from Dr Mohan Chinnappan, Dr Pauline Lysaght, Dr Irina Verenikina, Russell Walton, Stuart Woodcock, Dr Honglin Chen, Dr Gordon Brown, Associate Professor Wilma Vialle, Associate Professor Peter Kell, Nathan Price, Dr Gillian Vogl and Dr Deslea Konza as well as contributors from other universities.
The book was an initiative of the learning and the learner research group in the Faculty of Education and was developed as a way of opening up discussion on new and emerging issues for learning. The electronic format allows a broader audience to access these issues.
The launch of the ebook was conducted by the Dean of the Faculty of Education, Professor Paul Chandler, and the Acting University Librarian, Ms Margie Jantti.
The ebook is part of the development of research online and it can be accessed from http://ro.uow.edu.au/communities.html
