Lucy Mentoring Program launched
12 Jun 2008 | Kate McIlwain
The University of Wollongong recently launched the Lucy Mentoring Program -- a program developed by the Minister for Women and supported through the Office for Women, NSW Department of Premier and Cabinet.
It has operated at other universities for the past three years but this is the first year of operation at UOW.
At the program launch, 18 students were introduced to their 18 mentors. The mentors are all women in senior roles who can offer advice and support to young women from the Faculties of Law and Commerce.
The purpose of the program is to equip the young women with the advice, networks and experience they need to take on leadership and senior positions in the private and public sector.
To quote from the Lucy website: “Lucy will encourage the development of young women, who, given the right opportunities and support, will become our future leaders.”
More information can be found at the Lucy website
The program is being co-ordinated at UOW by Careers Counsellor, Robyn Gleeson, and Workplace Learning Co-ordinator, Sue Rejske. They can be contacted on 4221 3970.
