Science, Engineering & IT night inspires high school students

2 Jul 2008 | Kate McIlwain

More than 200 school students interested in studying in the Faculties of Science, Engineering or Informatics attended an information evening at UOW.

High school students, along with their parents and teachers, met successful young graduates from the three fields and listened to them share their experiences of University and life beyond.

“The graduate speakers were the highlight because they gave students an idea of the types of careers they could lead,” organiser Michelle Stojanovski said.

Ellen Ryan–Colton from the planning, environmental and engineering management firm Parsons Brinckerhoff spoke about her role as a Graduate Ecologist and her time studying in the Faculty of Science.

The speaker for Informatics was Brett Carruthers, a Systems Engineer at Illawarra Industrial Instrumentation, and Senior Consultant at Kepner-Tregoe Belinda Bright spoke about her career path stemming from study in the Faculty of Engineering.

The evening also featured an open forum where students could speak directly to staff and current students, and included information on the Early Entry program, which opened yesterday.

For more information about studying in the Faculties of Science, Engineering or Informatics students can visit the prospective students website and follow the links.
