Free workshop assists young entrepreneurs

The Young Entrepreneurs Workshop was held recently at UOW’s Loftus Education Centre.
Organised by the Sutherland Shire Hub for Economic Development (SSHED) and run by The Frank Team, the free workshop was an opportunity for young people to learn how to set up their own businesses and pursue an independent career path.
Jessica Kiely, Director of The Frank Team, facilitated the workshop. Jessica has herself been a successful young entrepreneur since the age of 19 and enjoys helping other young business-minded people to achieve their goals.
Attendees included recent UOW graduates Jay Pundavela, Nallakkumar Karunanithy, and Amir Shihadeh. The three graduates have formed a business called Pick n’ Drop Dry Cleaning.
“The University has contributed a lot to building our business,” Jay said, citing time management and teamwork as skills learnt through his university career.
“It’s not what you learn -- it’s the principal of applying what you learn,” Amir said.
The three new young entrepreneurs also said any avenue of help was welcome.
“The quality of the guest speakers was beyond my expectation and the networking opportunity was great,” Amir said.
The Young Entrepreneurs Workshop was held as part of the annual Business Development Week organised by the SSHED.
