SIFE makes its mark at national competition
23 Jul 2008 | Bernie Goldie
The SIFE@UOW team has just returned from attending the program’s annual national competition in Brisbane snaring two significant awards.
SIFE (Students in Free Enterprise) is a worldwide organisation that provides university students with the opportunity to dream, develop and make a difference via free enterprise education. Students are required to work together as a team to create an innovative portfolio of projects to assist their local, national and global community.
Projects are designed to meet a problem or concern within the community they choose to target, and the collaboration encourages the students to work outside the structured nature of their education.
At the recent Brisbane competition, SIFE@UOW saw six students showcase their suite of community projects designed to create economic opportunity for others through education, market economics, financial literacy and entrepreneurialism.
As Faculty Adviser, Sue Rejske (from the Careers Service) was awarded the 2008 Woolworths SIFE Australia Most Outstanding Mentor and she will now attend the SIFE World Cup to be held in Singapore in October.
And the 2008 STW Group’s SIFE Australia’s Most Outstanding Alumnus went to Darko Radiceski who was President of SIFE at UOW in 2006 and now leads an alumni team.
