Trivia challenge raises funds for children with autism

2 Sep 2008 | Bernie Goldie

More than 290 people recently attended the UOW Social Club’s 4th Annual Trivia Night to help raise funds for the South Coast School for Children with Autism -- a ‘UOW Cares’ charity.

A joint venture between the UOW Social Club and the South Coast School for Children with Autism, 30 teams battled it out with the UOW Library’s ‘Tome Raiders’ taking victory.

It is the first time the Staff Social Club partnered with a local organisation.

The event received a lot of support from local businesses and community people who donated prizes.

Teams also enjoyed a silent auction on the night where various items were available for bidding including an Apple MacBook, a signed 2008 Roosters jersey, Champions of League (Centenary) framed poster and 2 x Arquin 125s sprint motorbikes used in the ‘Ride 4 Autism’.

One of the winners of the motorbike was Carly Ludbrook, a Study Abroad and Exchange Co-ordinator with UOW.

‘UOW Cares’, the staff workplace giving program, supports the school’s outreach services that help families in the Illawarra and Shoalhaven regions.

The South Coast School is one of six schools in NSW operated by Autism Spectrum Australia (Aspect). Based at Corrimal, it provides specialised education programs for children with autism spectrum disorder as well as a range of early intervention, family support and community integration programs.
