CEDIR and Commerce earn international recognition for eLearning module

The Centre for Educational Development and Interactive Resources (CEDIR) and the Faculty of Commerce have been shortlisted as an Australian regional finalist for the 2008 IMS Global Learning Consortium Learning Impact Award.

The recognition is for their work in the development of the Commerce eLearning Module (CeLM).

The IMS Global Learning Consortium Learning Impact Award is an important, internationally recognised award for a technology-supported learning object.

Working on the development of the CeLM over two years has been Sarah Lambert (Manager eLearning Strategic Directions, CEDIR), Venkat Yanamandram (Marketing Discipline within the School of Management and Marketing in the Faculty of Commerce), Alisa Percy (Student Services) on the concept, content and strategy, and Sandra Humphrey (CEDIR) on the learning design.

The CeLM provides an educational scaffold for students to acquire the skills of academic integrity as they relate to plagiarism. It extends and consolidates learning resources previously developed for the first-year marketing subject, MARK101: Marketing Principles. It is now compulsory for most Commerce students attending the University of Wollongong.

UOW is one of only 11 institutions nationally to be shortlisted. Other finalists include the Centre for Learning Innovation, The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia & CPDlive.com Pty Ltd, Deloitte Leadership Academy, Education.au Limited, Hawkesdale P12 College, Macquarie University & LAMS Foundation, SkillsTech Australia, TAFE Tasmania, The Le@rning Federation, and University Library, University of Newcastle.

Selected staff from UOW will represent the team at the November ceremony in Melbourne. The CeLM project will be judged on learning impact, access, and innovation among other criteria during a ‘speed dating’ style judging. Finalists have four minutes of judge’s time to impress them with their project.

Winners of the regional finals go on to compete internationally at the IMS Global Learning Consortium Learning Impact 2009 Awards in Barcelona, Spain.
