Transnational Crime centre hosts Chinese delegation

The Centre for Transnational Crime Prevention (CTCP) is currently hosting a delegation of Chinese Ministry of Public Security representatives.

Prior to arriving at the University the delegation was hosted by the Australian Federal Police in Canberra. The delegation is made up of 15 high-ranking Chinese Ministry of Public Security representatives. The delegates are from 12 different provinces in China and represent various departments within the Ministry.

The course is being funded by AusAID under their Australian Leadership Award Fellowship Program. The course, which is being coordinated by the Australian Federal Police in consultation with the University of Wollongong, has a focus on policing leadership and management.

Presentations to be given to the delegation include International Criminal Law, Jurisdiction Sovereignty, The Australian Criminal Justice System, Cross Jurisdictional Police Cooperation, Corporate Crime, Why terrorists join? Criminal Intelligence and Threat Assessments and Border Security.

Along with presentations from CTCP and UOW staff and students, the program also includes presentations by the Australian Federal Police, NSW Police, Department of Immigration and Citizenship and Australian Customs Service.

They will also be visiting Wollongong City Council, Wollongong District Court, Goulburn Police Academy, NSW Police Complex Wollongong and the NSW Police Dog Squad

The visitors arrived in Wollongong on Thursday, 20 November and will be here until December 5 before they depart for Sydney.
