UOW Alumni Network hosts first out of region event

The UOW Alumni Network held their inaugural ACT Alumni Cocktail Reception at the Parlour Bar in Canberra on Wednesday 19 November 2008

More than 50 alumni attended the event and were treated to tapas and drinks. Senior Alumni Relations Coordinator, Kelly Salmon said guests had a wonderful time mingling with their fellow UOW alumni.

Many UOW graduates move to Canberra after finishing uni to take part in graduate programs and work in the government and political sector.

“We decided to hold the event in Canberra because we have a large group of alumni living and working in the ACT and felt that it was the ideal location for our first "out of region" alumni event,” Mrs Salmon said.

Guest speaker at the event was Associate Professor Adam Dolnik, from the Centre for Transnational Crime Prevention (CTCP) at UOW. Associate Professor Dolnik is an expert in terrorism and the motivations driving terrorists.

Mrs Salmon said that feedback from the event was extremely positive with many alumni looking forward to the next event. In 2009, similar events will be held in Sydney and Melbourne, as well as the ACT for a second year.
