Five members from the School of Economics at the University of Wollongong recently attended a joint PhD workshop at Seoul National University (SNU).
The workshop involved students and staff from UOW and the highly acclaimed and internationally ranked Seoul National University (SNU).
SNU is ranked the top university in Korea according to the Shanghai Jiao Tong Rankings and 62nd in The Times (Higher Education Supplement) world university rankings.
The joint workshop was directly supported by the School of Economics at UOW and the Republic of Korea Ministry of Education and Human Resources as part of the ‘Brain Korea 21 Project’, to promote economic research and education for training world-class economic researchers and professionals.

The Seoul workshop was the third workshop (with the first two held at UOW in 2007 and 2008) and organisers described it as very successful with high-quality papers and discussants.
Among other staff and students from UOW and SNU at the Seoul workshop were the co-organisor, Brain Korea 21 Associate Professor Jae Lee, (third from left in photo), Director of the Centre for China Studies at SNU, Professor Keun Lee (third from right) co-organiser, UOW Associate Professor Ed Wilson (fourth from right) and School Head of Postgraduate Studies at UOW, Dr Martin O’Brien (sixth from right).
