Shoalhaven keeps up with the latest on the technology front

Shoalhaven business people have learnt about RFID- Radio Frequency Identification – and how it can be applied to their businesses.

Mr Samuel Fosso Wamba, an expert in RFID and lecturer in UOW’s School of Information Systems and Technology (SISAT), this week gave a presentation at the Sunset Meeting held at Shoalhaven Campus. Michael Hindle, a research student at SISAT, assisted with the presentation.

The meeting was co hosted by AOSC, the Australasian Occupational Science Centre and the Shoalhaven Business Chamber. Participants included representatives from small and large local businesses as well as interested students.

Mr Wamba said that RFID is considered “the next big thing” in the management and “the next revolution in supply chain”.

He highlighted how RFID could substantially improve internal and external supply chain operations.

“This is a great opportunity for Shoalhaven business to keep informed and up to date with the latest technology”, according to Ms Sonya Cochrane, Executive Officer of the Shoalhaven Business Chamber.

“Having access to the University’s resources through meetings such as this is a real benefit for local business,” she said.

Dr Alison Wicks, Director of AOSC at Shoalhaven Campus, organises the Sunset meetings as a way of facilitating the University’s engagement with the community.

“Sunset Meetings enable university staff to showcase their research and the community learns how the research can be translated to practice. It is win-win”, she said.
