Assessment under microscope in new book
The bookshop was the venue for the launch of ‘Assessment, Learning and Judgement in Higher Education’ on 27 March.
Edited by Dr Gordon Joughin from the Centre for Educational Development and Interactive Resources (CEDIR), the book makes a significant contribution to conceptualising key aspects of assessment that are critical to learning, building on research conducted in the UK and Australia.
It focuses on the role of assessment in directing students’ study, provides feedback that is acted on by students to improve their work, and helps students to develop the capacity to evaluate the quality of their own work -- and improve it during its production.
The book consists of chapters written by leading assessment scholars.
Each chapter provides an in-depth examination of an aspect of the conceptual framework.
The book was launched by a world authority on assessment and learning in higher education, Professor David Boud. Professor Boud is Professor of Adult Education at the University of Technology, Sydney, and an Australian Learning and Teaching Council Senior Fellow.
