CTCP hosts international crime fighting course
UOW’s Centre for Transnational Crime Prevention (CTCP) is hosting 16 guests from Indonesia at a course to fight international crime.
The program, being run in conjunction with the Regional Legal Assistance Unit in the Australian Government Attorney General's Department, is presented in two parts.
The first program Fighting Crime through International Legal Cooperation Program is aimed at improving Indonesia's capacity to make and respond to extradition and mutual legal assistance requests, and is being held this week at the Innovation Campus.
The second program, held in Canberra on 14 May, Prosecuting Transnational Crimes is aimed at improving Indonesia's capacity to conduct effective prosecutions of transnational crimes. Both programs are considered a joint learning experience for Australia and Indonesia.
At the course opening on Tuesday (28 April), Executive Director of CTCP Professor Andrew Goldsmith welcomed participants to the University and the city of Wollongong.
“This is a very exciting and important program for bilateral cooperation, and will provide an update on issues surrounding fighting international crime,” Professor Goldsmith said.
He said that now is an exciting time for CTCP, with many of their programs expanding at their new home on the Innovation Campus.
After the welcome Dean of Law Professor Luke McNamara officially opened the course, saying one of the most important international partnerships that has developed in the Faculty of Law over the years is between Australia and Indonesia.
