IPRI researcher honoured at Science at the Shine Dome
A Research Fellow with the Intelligent Polymer Research Institute (IPRI), Dr Joe Razal, was one of only six Australian Postdoctoral Fellowship holders in the country selected by the Australian Research Council to participate in a special event recently at Canberra’s Science at the Shine Dome.
Dr Razal received an ARC Early Researchers Award and also participated in the early Career Researchers’ Program as part of Science at the Shine Dome 2009.
Science at the Shine Dome is an annual three-day event conducted by the Australian Academy of Science. It provides an opportunity for young scientists to hear about the research findings of colleagues across a wide range of disciplines and to mix with Academy Fellows, symposium speakers and science teachers as well as their peers. It also allows the young scientists to participate in career development workshops.
Dr Razal received his award during a formal admission of new Fellows and awards presentation. He later attended the annual dinner held in the Great Hall at Parliament House in Canberra.
Dr Razal’s research focuses on creating novel platforms for muscle and nerve regeneration which is one of the core projects of the nanobionics program at the ARC Centre of Excellence for Electromaterials Science based at the University of Wollongong.
His research has a strong multi-disciplinary nature as it marries the expertise of engineers, chemists, materials scientists and biologists to work together as a team.
Dr Razal’s research uses electroactive and nanostructured materials as novel alternatives to biomaterials that are traditionally used in medical technology.
