Dual purpose behind a special visit to CMRP
There was a dual purpose behind the visit of the Professor of Radiology at the University of Washington, Professor Thomas Lewellen, to the Centre for Medical Radiation Physics (CMRP) on 28 August.
Professor Lewellen presented a seminar on “Designing Positron Emission Tomography (PET) detector systems based on GM-APSs – the University of Washington experience”.
At the same time, Professor Lewellen is also a Chair of the site selection committee for the IEEE Nuclear Science Symposium Medical Imaging Conference 2013 and a General Chair for the IEEE Nuclear Science Symposium Medical Imaging Conference 2011.
This conference generally attracts between 2,000 to 2,500 participants world wide.
The Director of UOW’s Centre for Medical Radiation Physics, Professor Anatoly Rozenfeld, is the proposed Chairman of the IEEE Nuclear Science Symposium Medical Imaging Conference for 2013 should Australia be chosen to host this event.
The Cairns Convention Centre has been targeted to host the conference should Professor Rozenfeld be successful.
Representatives from the Cairns Convention Centre were in Wollongong to showcase their venue on behalf of UOW and Australia to Professor Lewellen.
