High-level Swedish university visit
A high-level delegation from Umeå University in Sweden have been visiting the University of Wollongong yesterday and today (2 September).
UOW has an active exchange and academic research and collaboration agreement with Umeå which has been in place since 1999.
Umeå is Sweden’s fifth oldest university and has 29,000 students across the Faculties of Arts, Medicine, Social Sciences and Science and Technology.
The main purpose of the visit was to broaden all aspects of the collaboration between the two universities and, in particular, to investigate ways to increase research links.
The visitors have held meetings with a range of UOW academics including the Pro Vice-Chancellor (International), Professor Joe Chicharo; the Faculty Deans, key researchers and administrative staff involved in international relations.
An information session was also held for prospective Umeå students through the Study Abroad and Exchange office.
The visitors were taken on campus tours including a visit to the Innovation Campus and to the residential colleges.
Their visit will conclude with a dinner hosted by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Rob Castle and Professor Chicharo.
