Staff hear update on Excellence in Research for Australia initiative

The second University Research Committee (URC) event of the year recently provided about 100 UOW staff with the opportunity to hear about the Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) initiative by guest speakers from the Australian Research Council (ARC).

The Executive Director, Humanities and Creative Arts with the ARC, Professor Andrew Wells, provided an ARC update in relation to the peer review and reporting changes for grants including improved feedback for academics on grants applications.

He also outlined how the ARC was undertaking internal changes under a ‘working smarter’ program to ensure that services were streamlined and simplified while remaining a lean organisation to ensure grants funding was maximised.

Director of the Outreach Program, Ms Liz Visher, presented on the ERA initiative providing background to the indicator selection, the ranked journal list process and the future of ERA.

She indicated that the Discipline Matrices for the full submission in 2010 would be announced very soon for consultation.

The UOW ERA Project Manager, Ms Claudia Perry-Beltrame, closed the event with a brief update of ERA@UOW.

She announced that her vision was to incorporate ERA into daily processes for the future to minimise the massive data collection exercise to backfill currently missing information.

The ERA@ UOW website provides current information, news and links to relevant documents and its available to UOW staff through the Intranet at https://intranet.uow.edu.au/raid/era/index.html
