PhD program in Health Informatics wins national recognition
At the recent annual conference of the Health Informatics Society Australia, held in Canberra, two awards for ‘Highly Commended’ student scientific papers both went to UOW.
They were PhD candidates in UOW’s Health Informatics Research Laboratory, School of Information Systems and Technology.
This success is further public recognition of the achievements of Health Informatics researchers and follows the achievement of Dr Ping Yu and PhD candidate Esther Munyisia in winning the Don Walker Award at the annual conference last year.
Sponsored by an ARC Industry Linkage Grant, candidate Kieren Diment has been in the PhD program for only six months, supervised by Dr Ping Yu and Dr Karin Garrety from the School of Management and Marketing.
Ning Wang has been pursuing her PhD degree for just one year, supervised by Dr Ping Yu, Dr David Hailey and industry supervisor Mrs. Deborah Oxlade, Executive Manager, Service Development in RSL Care.
The awards were presented following the keynote address on the last day of the conference which was attended by 300 people.
Co-ordinator of the Health Informatics Research Lab, Dr Yu said the meeting highlighted the strong scientific rigour of the research group and the high quality of the PhD education program in Health Informatics at UOW.
