Strong student participation for ‘Battle of the Operating Systems’
A ‘Battle of the Operating Systems’ was held on 17 September at UOW. featuring a Mac OS vs Windows battle.
A Lecturer in the School of Computer Science and Software Engineering, Mr Daniel Saffioti, said the evening was about showing students the various opportunities that exist to help them in both growing domains.
He said about 200 Computer Science/ IT students met to look at the various opportunities computer companies such as Apple and Microsoft present them. It was the largest turnout of students for such an event conducted by the School of Computer Science and Software Engineering.
“The event was designed to give students an awareness of cool innovations and emerging technologies along with the tools needed to help their degrees,” Mr Saffioti said.
On the Microsoft side, Steve Duda and Joshua Atkins outlined the benefits of the Microsoft platform along with some excellent Microsoft opportunities for students.
On the Apple Side, Mr Saffioti gave insight into Apple's technology stack and spoke about the Apple University Consortium programs such as the Worldwide Developers Conference.
During the event, numerous prizes were on offer for the students.
