Radio Frequency Identification thesis gets tick of approval

An expert in Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), Dr Samuel Fosso Wamba, has recently returned from Canada after presenting his work on the impact of RFID technology in the supply chain.

Dr Wamba believes that RFID is the “next big thing” in the management and “the next revolution in supply chain” saying that it could substantially improve internal and external supply chain operations.

A supply chain is a system of organisations, people, technology, activities, information and resources involved in moving a product or service from supplier to customer [Source: Wikipedia].

Dr Wamba, a lecturer in the School of Information Systems and Technology (SISAT) successfully defended his PhD thesis in regard to RFID in front of a six members’ jury at the Polytechnic School of Montreal, Canada.

The jury, which included senior academics from Canada and Switzerland, accepted Dr Wamba’s thesis, ‘as-is’.

Concurrently, a paper co-authored by Dr Wamba has just been accepted for publication in the “Special Issue of Managing RFID Projects in Organisations” of the European Journal of Information Systems.

In addition, three co-authored papers were accepted for the forthcoming 43 Hawaii International Conferences on System Sciences (HICSS) in January 2010. And an extended version of one of these has been invited for extension and submission to the Information Systems Frontiers Journal.

Dr Wamba is organising special issues on RFID for the Business Process Management Journal and Pacific Asia Journal of the Association for Information Systems.
