UOW hosts Australia-Japan Comparative Oceans Policy Symposium

In collaboration with the Japan Ocean Policy Research Foundation (OPRF), the Australian National Centre for Ocean Resources and Security (ANCORS) has been co-hosting an Australia-Japan Comparative Oceans Policy Symposium this week (11-13 November).

The symposium is part of the ongoing collaborative research partnership between OPRF and ANCORS at the University of Wollongong and is intended to foster research into ocean issues of mutual interest.

OPRF is a Japanese independent research organisation, funded by the Nippon Foundation. The Executive Director of the OPRF, Mr Hiroshi Terashima, opened the presentations on the Japanese Ocean Policy.

The symposium includes experts and government officials from Japan and Australia and is one of a number of collaborative workshops planned on ocean issues.

A third symposium is being planned for January 2010 in Tokyo to follow up on issues of islands and ocean management.
