First students welcomed into socially innovative commerce degree
More than 330 future students and their families attended a congratulatory event on 18 November to celebrate their guaranteed entry to study Commerce at the University of Wollongong in 2010.
The students represent the first to be offered guaranteed positions into the new 2010 Socially Innovative Commerce degree.
The evening provided an opportunity to show the future students that the Faculty of Commerce cares about its students and their families and wants to enable them to improve their lives, the organisations they work with and the communities they serve.
The students and their families were given the opportunity to speak with key members of the faculty and were able to gain a more thorough understanding of the new Socially Innovative Bachelor of Commerce degree.
Acting Dean of Commerce, Associate Professor Gary Noble said the Early Entry program, now in its second year in Commerce, was a great opportunity for high-achieving students to be rewarded for their hard work in receiving a guaranteed place to study before receiving their HSC results.
More than 550 students applied for Early Entry for the 2010 year, compared with only 470 last year.
“It’s extremely exciting to see this first round of students begin in undertaking this new degree,” Professor Noble said.
