Hub gets thumbs up as venue for National Careers Fair
The University Recreation and Aquatic Centre (URAC) Sports Hub was the new venue for this year’s National Careers Fair held yesterday (18 March) – and the site received a big thumbs up from students and employer representatives.
The hub catered for more than 250 employer representatives (from about 70 high profile national and global organisations) so there was plenty of opportunities for students from all disciplines to discuss their career prospects.
It was the first time that the hub hosted its first major business event.
This year, to keep with the sporting theme of the new venue, representatives were present from the NRL St George Illawarra Dragons (including Ben Creagh who is doing a commerce degree) as well as players from NBL Wollongong ahm Hawks.
They were on hand to sign autographs and talk to students about their own career aspirations.
Adding colour to the whole event skydivers dropped in landing on the oval adjoining the hub.
Head of Careers Central, Mr Martin Smith, said about 1,800 students attended the Autumn Careers Fair which ran from 10am to 2pm.
Mr Smith said those attending the fair were very pleased with the venue for its capacity to host such large volumes of people.
And the employer representatives were able to park directly underneath the hub and easily convey their equipment into the main exhibition area.
