Univative Illawarra provides a helping hand to organisations
Four organisations have gained a fresh perspective into various challenges facing their organisations from eight teams of University of Wollongong students participating in Univative Illawarra.
Two teams presented their solutions to each organisation on Friday 23 July who selected one team’s presentation and report as the winner, although in all cases the host was impressed with the solutions provided by both teams.
Host organisations were Capture IT Sydney (Kogarah), Sanokil (Wollongong and Nowra), Freestyle Composites (Fairy Meadow) and Lady Denman Heritage Complex (Huskisson).
UOW Careers Central Work Integrated Learning co-ordinator, Roz Pocius, said that all the hosts were very pleased with the outcomes and solutions the students presented and in some cases intend on following through with the students’ recommendations.
The students are studying a wide range of courses from psychology and journalism to computer science and engineering.
The hosts briefed the students on their organisation and the context for their business challenge and the students then worked offsite to research the problem and prepare a report and presentation.
Students develop their employability skills – such as teamwork, research, problem-solving and communicating via reports and presenting to an audience.
At the same time, the host organisations gain fresh insights and research into workable solutions for their workplace.
