UOW beams in to Asia Pacific region

Two UOW International students will share their Australian experiences with the Asia Pacific when the first episode of an exciting new season of My Australia airs tomorrow.

Ida Puspita from Indonesia and Salome Wate from the Solomon Islands will feature in My Australia, a series which follows young people from overseas and their experiences of Australian life.

Ida said she has enjoyed her time at UOW and is fascinated with many aspects of Australian life including the country’s government, love of sport and environmental practices.

“I like the study environment of the University and the helpful academic and administration staff,” she said.

“I also like how humans and animals coexist together on campus. Birds, trees, animals and people all share the same environment.”

Although Ida admits she came across some difficulties such as adjusting to the winter temperatures and being unable to easily find Indonesian cuisine, she said she has enjoyed visiting Australia.

Ida said experiences such as visiting Sydney and being taught to paint by local Indigenous artists were among the highlights of her stay.

“I will definitely recommend visiting Australia to my friends in Indonesia,” she said.

My Australia, now in its third season, showcases Australia through the eyes of young people studying in the country or visiting from overseas.

In each episode, guests take on new challenges or experiences and learn more about the Australian way of life as a result.

The series is produced by the ABC and is broadcast by Australia Network to 44 countries in the Asia Pacific region.

My Australia will air on Australia Network at 8:30pm on Wednesday October 24.
