International visit strengthens life sciences relationship
A delegation of researchers from the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences (BOKU) in Vienna were recently welcomed to UOW to discuss potential future collaborations between the two universities.
The delegation visited the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences, the Environmental Resource Centre and the School of Civic, Mining and Environmental Engineering.
The BOKU delegation were briefed on all aspects of Science, Medicine and Health (SMAH) activity in the natural environment and life sciences space, including teaching and research.
After meeting with the delegation UOW Vice-Chancellor, Professor Paul Wellings, CBE, said he looked forward to future collaborations between the two institutions.
“The research synergies between our two universities lead to some exciting possibilities in the natural resources and life sciences space,” he said.
Distinguished Professor Richard (Bert) Roberts from the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences said the benefits of collaborating with an institution such as BOKU are far reaching.
“The contrasting environmental settings of Australia and Austria provide exceptional opportunities for collaboration,” he said.
“For students and staff studying and working on issues concerning the natural sciences, there are obvious benefits in experiencing these contrasting environments first-hand, to provide a more rounded and holistic view of the natural world.”
