Bega Education Access Centre celebrates first anniversary
11 December 2000
The University of Wollongong is celebrating one year of operations on the
South Coast, and enrolments are now being accepted for year two.
Whether potential students have just finished Year 12, or have not studied for
a while, the University is offering a number of degrees at its Bega campus,
including Arts, Business Administration and Commerce.
The Bega Education Access Centre, a collaboration between the University of
Wollongong, Illawarra Institute of Technology and Bega High School, is a part
of an exciting development in education facilities on the South Coast. The primary
objective of the Centre is to provide enhanced education opportunities for residents
of the Bega Valley Shire.
The Bega Education Access Centre represents a commitment by the University of
Wollongong to provide tertiary education on the South Coast. In 2000 the University
also opened a similar facility in Batemans Bay and a brand new campus in West
Nowra.
Many local students are now entering the second year of study at these new facilities.
The response from the first intake has been overwhelmingly positive as students
enjoy the advantages of a local education provided by Australias University
of the Year for 2000-2001.
Local business is also involved in providing scholarships to meet some of the
costs of tertiary education. Bega Rotary, Bega RSL, Bermagui Lions, Bega Chamber
of Commerce and the Mumbulla Foundation have all contributed. Applications close
on Friday 22 December.
Local tutors, flexible timetables, and support services are features of an education
at the Bega centre. Enrolments are being taken now for 2001 contact Ann
